Planned Events
STWing Assassin
Shortly after the Fall 2024 semester begins, new and returning STWingers will find out enemies are everywhere: the blimp room, KCECH dining, lecture halls… maybe even your very room. Assassin is a game where players are secretly assigned targets to eliminate, while avoiding being eliminated themselves. The game will likely be held in the first part of the Fall Semester.
Princeton Plasma Lab Trip
Yes, we all know there are more than three states of matter. We don’t quite have the budget to take a field trip to the nearest neutron star, and any STWing Tesla coils have been lost to time (for now). Fortunately, over in Jersey some crazy smart people with funding over in Jersey have a very cool lab that studies the fourth state of matter. The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory also offers private tours, allowing STWingers to learn about an interdisciplinary field with applications in propulsion, defense, energy, and other industries that operate on the bleeding edge of physics. The trip will likely be held in the Fall semester.
Philadelphia Maker Faire
No, it's not a typo. Directly from their website, the Philadelphia Maker Faire is “a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these "makers" to show hobbies, experiments, [and] projects.” In 2024, a group of STWingers went to spectate the event, and saw booths featuring acoustic levitation, a remote controlled with an airsoft cannon, a new film noire board game, and much, much more. In 2025, STWing aims to have their own booth featuring one or more projects made by the club. Interested STWingers will work on the projects during the school year, and man the booth when the 2025 Maker Faire comes around.
Lockpicking Workshop
Disclaimer: STWing and its affiliates do not take any responsibility for problems that arise from applying learned skills, whether legal, physical, or otherwise.
Surely at some point in your life you’ve tried to open a lock. Maybe you forgot the combination, lost the key, or thought you would look like a character in an action movie (likely without success). Regardless of any past lockpicking experiences (or lock lack thereof), STWing has a treat for you! One of the presenting groups at the 2024 Maker Faire was The Open Organisation Of Lockpickers (TOOOL), “an international group of lockpicking enthusiasts dedicated to advancing the general public knowledge about locks and lockpicking through teaching, research, and competition.” When we walked by the booth, we found ourselves suddenly handcuffed with no hope to escape (read: we sat down and they gave us a demonstration). Fortunately, with bobby pins and paper clips we freed ourselves and stole their contact information for later use (read: one of them gave us their email to set up a future workshop). TOOOL’s workshop will be held during one of STWing’s weekly meetings, with the date to be decided based on interest and availability.
Other Things
Yeah, there are some other plans too - Anonymous STWing Member
Throughout the year, there will likely be more events, some social, some sciency, and some volunteering. Here at STWing, group interest and commitment alone can make a good amount of ideas come to fruition. Whether it be STWecret STWanta, an epic Nerf war, or a movie night, we can probably find a way to make it happen.
